Kelowna's Commuter Stats Dull, But Full of Hope

Okanagan's Business page "Okanagan Edge" just released stats on Kelowna traffic. Here are some highlights and why we're hopeful.

Commutes are shorter than national average

"Across the country, people spent an average of of 26.2 minutes travelling to their workplace last year. That’s almost a minute longer than it was five years ago.

In Kelowna, however, commute times are significantly lower. Here, commuters spent an average of 19.8 minutes commuting to work."

- With a shorter commute to work, this leaves us with a higher probability to commute by bike right? 20 minutes in traffic in Kelowna is probably equal to a 20 minute commute by bike.

Commute by bike small but higher than national average

"A relatively small proportion of Kelowna residents also commute by active transportation, like bicycles. The 7.2 per cent of active transport commuters here is more than the national average, which sits at 6.9 per cent."

Conclusion

With a high hope that Kelowna can continue to grow it's "bike to work" community, We here at 6AM are happy that we're creating breathable dress shirts to remove the negative barriers associated with biking to work. One simple change at a time can lead to a greener community and healthier future.
